ABOUT US
I started off in November 2008 by the name “Bipul’s Creation” as a small hand embroidery workshop for girls who are deprived of formal education because of financial reasons. I taught them hand embroideries free of cost and paid them stipends to sustain their training period and once they are capable enough to take orders, I paid them salaries based on their skill. I continued likewise for a few years till I had to shift to Bangalore with my husband who was working as a Senior Project Manager for Yahoo.com at that time. It helped my cause in a different way as it gave me time to undergo training in various forms of hand embroideries there and later started teaching various Indian and International forms of hand embroidery both online and offline.
Once I returned to Guwahati in 2014, I restarted our hand embroidery workshop. As I was doing it at a grassroot level, my husband, Santunu Bhattacharjee, suggested me to go big this time and offered to help me out in the entire management of the idea as a proper business module.
So, we decided to put in my Fashion Designing skills and his online experience together to start something serious. He renamed our entity as “FASHIONISTA BY RIMU” organised the online platform for launching Fashionista by Rimu in a new light and we made our first online debut on August 10 2014.
CAREER INSPIRATION
I was always fascinated by hand embroideries and in my early life learnt it from my family and close once. One of such close one’s was my aunt Mrs. Suparna Kakoty, who is a versatile lady herself. She inspired me to start with the concept of start the Hand Embroidery workshop whereby I could enhance my skills and help a lot of underprivileged young girls who can make a career out of it. It was she and my sister Simu Chaudhary who suggested me to join a formal Fashion Designing course to turn my hobby into a career. So, I joined the prestigious JD INSTITUE OF FASHION DESIGNING in the year 2009 immediately after my Graduation was complete. In this my mother, sister, husband and my father-in-law were always by my side and provided me active support and motivation.
FABRICS & MATERIALS
Today we deal in a varied range of fabrics but we specialise in Mekhela sador, sarees and shawls. Basically unstitched garments. We have various forms of natural as Ill as artificially replicated fibre fabrics based on client needs. We cater to all age groups who are fascinated with Indian wear. We deal in pure handloom fabrics from Across India right from Pure Pashminas from Kashmir to Kasavu Cotton Sarees of the South. Mirror work from West India to Pure Mulberry, Muga and Toss Muga of East. We design exclusively in Assamese Traditional wear and also work closely with various weavers in the grassroot level to promote their skills. I do so not only in Assam but also in various parts of India.
